Cosmetic Services FAQ

Botox

What is Botox?

You’ve probably heard of Botox, which is a prescription medicine made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It’s injected into muscles, specifically those in the face, to improve the look of modest wrinkles and lines caused by facial expressions and aging. Botox helps to relax the muscles causing these lines and wrinkles. It’s completely safe and approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration. The effects of Botox last 3-6 months, depending on the area treated and your specific skin type. You can receive additional treatments when needed.

Who is a good candidate for Botox?

Botox is appropriate for anyone ages 18-65 who wants to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should refrain from treatment, as should anyone who is allergic to the preservatives in Botox or anyone who has a neurological disease. Dr. Surti will review your medical history to ensure Botox is appropriate for you.

Fillers

What are fillers?

Fillers are products used to plump up sunken areas, wrinkles, or lines in the face. Dr. Surti uses Juvéderm®, an FDA-approved product.

How does Juvéderm work?

Your skin contains a natural substance that keeps it moist and youthful. As you age, this substance — called hyaluronic acid — diminishes. Sun and other environmental factors compound the loss. Juvéderm naturally replenishes hyaluronic acid to give your skin support and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, sagging, and folds. The results of Juvéderm can last up to a year.

What is Latisse?

Latisse is a treatment that helps you grow lush, full eyelashes if yours are too thin or sparse. Whether you have genetically thin lashes or they’ve thinned out with aging, Latisse is for you. You apply it, like liquid eyeliner, once per day. Latisse is only available by prescription, and people who are at risk for glaucoma or have eye pressure problems shouldn’t use it. Consult with Dr. Surti to see if you’re a good candidate.

Eyelid Surgery

How do I know if I need eyelid surgery to improve my appearance?

Some people develop extra skin on the eyelids as they age, which can make a person look tired. Eyelid surgery can return a look of vitality and youthfulness to your face. Dr. Surti performs eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty, on healthy people as an outpatient procedure. You go home the same day and recover fully within just a week or two when all discoloration and swelling around the eyes subsides.
