Eyeglasses FAQ
Why not buy eyeglasses online?
Many people perceive that eyewear purchased at the eye doctor's office is more expensive. This is simply not true. Citrus Valley Eyecare will help you to become a more knowledgeable purchaser. You’ll get glasses that are truly right for you, instead of being misled by advertising touting huge discounts. Regardless of the type of lenses you need, the state-of-the-art lab used to produce them assures that your lenses are of the highest quality and meet Dr. Surti’s stringent optical standards.
The service at Citrus Valley Eyecare does not end when you pick up your new eyewear. The staff will gladly adjust your eyeglasses or answer your questions at any time. We stand behind everything we sell.
When are you open?
Our optical shop is open from Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. It’s convenient for residents living in the San Gabriel Valley.
What lens selections do you offer?
Citrus Valley Eyecare offers multiple types of lenses, including:
- Single Vision
- Bifocal
- Trifocal
- Progressive
- Reading
- Computer Lens
- Sunglasses
- Contact Lens
Lenses may be made of high index trivex, polycarbonate, or plastic. Add features to your lenses too, such as transition, UV protection, scratch resistance, anti-reflective coating, and polarization. You also have a wide variety of frame styles and sizes to choose from to complement your face.
Why would I choose UV protection?
UV protection prevents damage to the delicate skin of your eyelids, but also to the structure of your eye itself. Your cornea, lens, and other parts of the eye are vulnerable to sun exposure. Sunlight can contribute to the development of cataracts, eye growths, and even macular degeneration.
Do I need other add-ons?
Add-ons, such as scratch resistance or anti-reflective coatings, are a personal choice. You might appreciate the added protection and vision enhancement of specially-designed lenses. Talk to Dr. Surti and the optician to determine which features are a must for you.
Do you offer contact lens services and products?
There are many contact lens options services and products available. Our dedicated optometrist will take your lifestyle and vision correction needs into consideration when helping you select the right lenses for your eyes.
Here are some of the most common contact lens types:
- Hard contact lenses – Hard contact lenses are rigid gas permeable. This means that they are porous enough to allow oxygen to enter through to the cornea. Hard contact lenses keep their shape on the eye. As such, they are sometimes recommended to curb the progression of nearsightedness in younger wearers.
- Soft contact lenses – Soft contact lenses are popular because they are very comfortable for the wearer. Soft contact lenses don’t “pop out” the way hard lenses occasionally might. Soft lenses are appropriate to correct near and farsightedness and astigmatism.
- Disposable soft contact lenses – Intended to be worn for a short time, to help prevent allergic reactions or bacterial infections in sensitive wearers. Disposable lenses are also appropriate for children who might not take excellent care when cleaning their lenses.
- Extended wear contact lenses – Extended wear contact lenses are designed to be worn constantly for long periods of time – up to a week. They do need to be deep cleaned weekly, however. Unlike all other lenses, extended wear contacts can be worn while sleeping. The lens type allows sufficient oxygen to reach the eye for health.
- Daily wear contact lenses – Most contact lenses are daily wear. That is they are worn all day and then removed at night for cleaning. These lenses generally last until their given expiration date, at which point they must be discarded and replaced because the lens material begins to break down.
- Colored contact lenses – These are worn to enhance or completely change the visual color of the iris. They are still prescription contact lenses, however, and need to be treated with the same care you would give to regular lenses. Many — but not all — brands of contact lens companies offer colored lens options.
